Stupid Golf Question

What is a fade?

Someone calls the shot a fade and you are not sure whether that means good slice

Plain answer first

The plain answer

For a right-handed golfer, a fade curves gently from left to right. For a left-handed golfer, it curves gently from right to left. It is a controlled shape, unlike a slice, which curves more sharply and is usually unplanned.

The NPG answer

A fade takes the scenic route, but it still knows the destination.

When it matters

It matters when describing your normal ball flight or choosing a shape that fits the target and avoids trouble.

What to do next

Watch where the ball starts, how much it curves, and where it finishes before deciding whether you hit a controlled fade or an uncontrolled slice.

Do this next

What is a slice?

A slice is an uncontrolled shot that curves sharply away from the golfer.
