Stupid Golf Question

What is a gimme putt?

Someone says that is good and you do not know whether to pick it up

Plain answer first

The plain answer

A gimme putt is a short putt your playing partners agree you can skip and count as holed.

The NPG answer

It is your group saying the ball is close enough and nobody needs to watch a two-foot crisis.

When it matters

It matters in casual rounds and match play. It does not apply in normal stroke play tournaments unless the format allows it.

What to do next

Wait for someone else to give it to you. Do not award yourself a gimme like a tiny mayor.
