Stupid Golf Question

What is peak height?

The simulator tells you how high the ball went and you wonder whether it passed

Plain answer first

The plain answer

Peak height, sometimes called apex, is the highest point of the ball's flight, usually shown in feet or yards. It reflects the combined effects of launch, speed, and spin.

The NPG answer

It is the top floor of the shot before gravity calls it back downstairs.

When it matters

It matters when understanding the overall trajectory, but peak height alone does not show where the apex occurs or whether the ball clears a specific obstacle.

What to do next

Compare peak height with carry, descent angle, and the simulated landing point across several shots with one club.

Do this next

What is launch angle?

Launch angle is the angle at which the ball starts its flight relative to the ground.
