Stupid Golf Question
What is golf shaft weight?
Two shafts share a flex label but one is twenty grams heavier
Plain answer first
The plain answer
Shaft weight changes the club's total mass and can influence feel, tempo, fatigue, speed, and delivery. A lighter shaft does not automatically create more useful distance, and a heavier shaft does not automatically create control.
The NPG answer
It changes how much club you are moving, not whether the swing comes with instructions.
When it matters
It matters when a club feels hard to sense, tiring, difficult to accelerate, or inconsistent through a normal round.
What to do next
Test a few weights with the same head, length, and similar flex profile, then compare strike pattern, speed, dispersion, and comfort.
Do this next
Stiff flex vs regular flex: what is the difference?
Regular shafts generally bend more during the swing; stiff shafts generally resist bending more.
