What is a green in regulation?

A green in regulation means your ball is on the putting green in par minus two strokes or fewer: one stroke on a par 3, two on a par 4, or three on a par 5.
The NPG answer
It means you reached the green with two strokes left for par. The putter now receives the problem.
When it matters
It matters when measuring approach play separately from putting and the final score.

Track GIR for one round and record whether each miss was short, long, left, or right instead of judging only the total.
