Stupid Golf Question

What is a hook?

The ball turns hard across the course and someone calmly calls it a hook

Plain answer first

The plain answer

For a right-handed golfer, a hook curves hard from right to left. For a left-handed golfer, it curves hard from left to right. It is the exaggerated, unplanned version of a draw.

The NPG answer

A draw comes back politely. A hook kicks in the side door.

When it matters

It matters when naming the miss before checking what the clubface and swing path were doing at impact.

What to do next

Notice where the ball starts and how quickly it turns, then use that pattern to guide the next setup or swing check.

Do this next

What is a draw?
