Stupid Golf Question

What is club speed?

Someone asks for your swing speed and the screen says club speed

Plain answer first

The plain answer

Club speed, also called clubhead speed or swing speed, is how fast the clubhead is moving when it reaches the ball, usually measured in miles per hour.

The NPG answer

It is the engine number, not proof that the rest of the car is going straight.

When it matters

It matters because more club speed creates more potential ball speed, but contact and delivery decide how much of that potential becomes a useful shot.

What to do next

Record your normal club speed over several comfortable driver swings before trying to chase a faster one.
