Stupid Golf Question

What is smash factor?

The simulator gives your swing a decimal score called smash factor

Plain answer first

The plain answer

Smash factor is ball speed divided by club speed. A higher number with the same club usually means the strike transferred speed more efficiently, although normal ranges differ by club and launch monitor.

The NPG answer

It is a contact receipt, not a personality rating.

When it matters

It matters when you want to separate faster swinging from better contact. Driver readings can approach about 1.50 on many systems, while lofted clubs normally read lower.

What to do next

Use one club and compare smash factor across several shots while noting which strikes found the center of the face.

Do this next
